With more than 30 years of experience and market, the history of SYMBOL TECNOLOGIA DE VACUO began long before its foundation, more precisely in 1978!

Our founder, Manuel Correia Lameira, began working on vacuum technology when he was invited to set up the sales department of the now extinct HF-VÁCUO, then began to develop high vacuum pumps – using the ‘oscillating piston’ system – completely national, to supply the market that was growing and depended solely on imports of this equipment.

In 1984 and response to the growing demand for maintenance and technical assistance for imported pumps, SERVITESP – Serviços Técnicos Especializados Ltda. was founded. This company started to recover a large quantity of vacuum pumps, from the most diverse origins and brands, fully meeting demand!

At the beginning of the 90s, the company STEL was founded to begin the national production of high vacuum pumps, with rotary vanes in an oil bath, because of the growing need in the market for national technology, widely used in the field of refrigeration, based on their reduced weight and ease of transport. This stage began with complete success, as the market’s lack of quality equipment meant we produced in high quantities and everything we produced was sold immediately.

The period of great economic instability that occurred in the decade let us with a lot of struggle, galloping inflation, and several monetary reforms, economic plans adopted, the Summer plan, the Bresser plan, the Cruzado plan, price freezing, a lost economic decade, STEL was forced closing activities, but that doesn’t mean we give up on Brazil!

In response to the request of our customers, we restarted the design and manufacture of vacuum pumps, and rotary vanes in oil baths, in 1992-1993, we officially opened SYMBOL TECNOLOGIA DE VÁCUO LTDA., where SYMBOL – SÍMBOLO, in Portuguese – represented by the graduated column with its basin containing mercury at the bottom, reminiscent of the experiment by Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), this being its official logo since its foundation and undergoing few changes since then, but remaining with its essence original to this day, but with the inclusion of yellow-green in the logo, highlighting this passion for Brazil!
